No, coverage cannot be bound prior to the current date.
When does coverage begin?
If coverage is put in place prior to the effective date of the policy, coverage begins at 12:01 A.M. on the first date of the coverage. In addition, coverage ends at 12:01 A.M. on the last day of the coverage.
Is equipment covered when used underwater?
Equipment used underwater is only covered if used in a swimming pool.
Can rented equipment coverage be obtained without any other coverage, such as liability?
Yes! Property coverage can be issued up to $25,000

About Captive Insurance Carriers
A captive carrier works with agents that have a deal with that specific carrier only to sell that carriers products and cannot sell insurance for any other carrier, in return the agent gets certain support and perks but they are at the mercy of the insurance company.
Drawbacks of holding your insurance with a captive carrier:
•Price Increases: If your yearly renewal goes up in price, a captive agent cannot help you with pursuing insurance with a different carrier that may have the same coverage for a lower price. Captive carriers know this and they count on your laziness to put more money in their own pockets.
•Lack of Options: Often you may have your home insurance with a captive carrier but need to get, say vacant home insurance when your home goes on the market. A captive carrier may not have that option.
•Agents Work for the Company, Not You: Enough said, you dont have the final say when it comes to any kind of dispute, the insurance company owns your agent and therefore have more power over them than you do! A captive agent is worried about their own bottom line and their companys bottom line, not yours.
The Independent Agency
Unlike all the qualities described about captive agents and agencies, an independent insurance agency has the freedom to shop your insurance policies to every available independent carrier they can. One issue the independent agency runs into though is that they need to have what is called an appointment with the insurance agency before they can sell their products. Appointments are very hard to get, you have to prove yourself as an agency to get one.
